Scope mount for Italian Carcano.
Posted: April 27, PM. I have been asked by a customer to mount a scope on an Italian M91 Carcano rifle. As I'm sure you know, this rifle has a split rear receiver bridge, and is clip-fed from the top, so a scope must either be side-mounted and off-set, or use a swing-away mount to enable magazine feeding. I have on hand a Packmayr Lo-Swing mount for a Sako, complete with rings and base. It would be perfect, except the base mounting flange does not come near to matching the profile of the Carcano receiver.
Machining the base to fit would be difficult and time consuming maybe a few days' work. I do not mind a few hours of machining, but a few days is out of the question. I have never seen the Redfield swing mounts, so don't even know what they look like. Tasco swing mounts are all top-mounted, so won't work. I appreciate your advice and help. Thanks in advance! Benito Mussolini's efforts to restore the Roman Empire turned into a showcase of how not to fight a war. Needless to say, Italy is known for many things but not her martial prowess. Even her firearm manufacturing reputation is spotty.
Italy has Berettaperhaps one of the best gun makers in the world. But on the opposite side of the coin are Italy's bizarre and bedraggled mix of military rifles and pistols—none of which draw more consternation than the Carcano family of rifles. To many, the Carcano symbolizes why Italy lost.
The Carcano is reputed to be inaccurate, malfunction-prone, and outdated with a mix of new-fangled technologies when it was released in The Kingdom of Italy had only been unified a few decades before and she had plenty of powerful enemies who could do her in. The smokeless powder rifle race was in full swing and no one wanted their troops to go into battle with an inferior gun. Many rifles came out in that time and it was not apparent which systems worked and which did not until an actual war came.
Italy was a new country and a poor one. The M91 Carcano was a relatively native design that could be produced cheaply but it incorporated some of the latest innovations. It used the fast Mannlicher clip-loading system Italy's Germanic enemies were using and the first mainstream 6.
This relatively small-bore round for the time was flat shooting in an era long before today's target darlings. Italy would emerge victorious in World War I and the M91 acquitted itself. But as Italy's desire to expand continued in the s, problems were found with the 6.
That upgrade with the M38 Short Rifle. The makeover of the Carcano is more technical than fine wine and whale-based perfumes. World War I had taught Italy some lessons in their first test since unification. A long-barreled infantry rifle, the mainstay of bayonet charges and cavalry defenses with sights designed to fire in volleys at long range were obsolete. Nations who had not abandoned them before the war were keen to ditch them for a universal short rifle—one substantial enough for hard use but handy enough to replace the small cavalry and artillery carbines specialty troops carried around.
The M38 was that short rifle for Italy, sporting a twenty-one-inch barrel. Even though modern rifles had a long range, it was seldom used in combat. Statistics gathered from World War II, and later, indicate that combat takes place mostly within meters. It seems the Italians were already onto this in the interwar period. Their new rifle had no adjustable sights, but a fixed two hundred meter notched rear sight and a front barleycorn front sight.

There are over 50 unique usable weapons, a range of options for customization, and a selection of different ammunition types to improve accuracy, range, or damage. The more a gun is used, the better it will perform, but it will also start to degrade over time if not looked after, so a sidearm needs to be kept oiled and clean.

Numbered values marked in italicized red text is the maximum value of a stat, which is achieved when a weapon is customized, in good condition, high familiarity and certain ammo.
These weapons can be dual-wielded. They generally have short ranges and a high firing rate. The main difference between pistols and revolvers is that pistols tend to have a higher rate of fire and a higher ammo capacity, while revolvers tend to have greater damage and more accuracy.
Assuming the weapon is in good condition without customizations and familiarity boosts, each weapon's stats are as follows:. The weapons of choice for the medium-to-long range gunfight. They also can be equipped with scopes to assist players in shooting from a distance.
The repeaters are well-rounded firearms with decent damages, high rates of fire and large ammo capacities. The rifles, with exception of Varmint Rifle, provide the greatest damage out of all firearms. Nevertheless, their low rate of fire and small ammo capacities make them ill-suited for the close range firefight.
The shotguns are unmatched when it comes to inflicting damage at close range. This characteristic make them a good choice for clearing enemies out of rooms and buildings. As of update 1. Good for you. Perhaps you were the apprentice. Not to say the older rifles dont look good with the original furniture. But, that stock makes it look like it will be a work horse for another years. Where did you get it? Only reason I wouldn't put a new stock on a mil-surp rifle is of it had historical value. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. That is the original military stock. It was cut short by a previous owner. I sanded it down and used a swirl painting technique used often for guitars.
I like the way it turned out. The barrel and stock were both cut so this gun had no historical value. Originally Posted by ichthyo. Pretty neat.
